We believe in not just working together, but being an active part of the community.
Boyds Flowers has been part of the Wilmington community for 103 years, and has always been a family business. Currently in the fourth generation, Boyds has always been known to provide a quality product and the best in service at a reasonable price.
Our employees are important extended family members with a sense of community. For 10 years, our drivers have delivered "Meals on Wheels" to Wilmington's housebound elderly. Boyds has supported the Holly Ball Foundation Gifts for Children's Charities. And most recently, we provided floral decorations for the opening of the new County Library. Linda Kellogg, the President of Boyds has been a Director and Charter Member of the Delaware Family Business Center.
And we celebrate as a team, with spontaneous softball games and bowling outings. Harvey Roop, who led Boyds through the second generation, was also known as "Big Harvey Roop" of the original Blue Rocks. We all joined him last year for a picnic outing at Frawley Stadium, and to see him get recognized on the field.
Boyds has been voted the "Best of Delaware" twice in recent years, once for our famous "Happy Hour" from 4 to closing every Friday night, where we sell all of our cut flowers at half price in an exciting fast paced event. This gives all of our community a chance to jump start their weekend with select long lasting florist quality bouquets. We've also been recognized by the News Journal as a Readers Choice.
Floral holidays are the highlight of our year. The demand for our product requires us to work long hours, and sacrifice holiday family time. This requires a great deal of patience and understanding from spouses and family members with the extended schedules to accommodate our customers, but we enjoy it because it's a team effort and because of the pleasure our product brings to the community.
